GW37 REVIEW – IRONIC

Welcome to the GW37 REVIEW – IRONIC

It’s the hope that kills you – but we will get to that …

So FFUKers we have ourselves a new King CONT!!

He goes by the name of David Isaac managing The Invertibles!! Massive Congratulations David! Dispatching exactly 100 FFUKers over a period of 37 consecutive weeks to come out on top!

CONTS is all about consistency and like your name sake who has been banging in the goals for the Magpies your rise to superstardom has been built upon a foundation of consistency!!

Excellent work and enjoy the spoils, you have the bragging rights for 12 months!

Big mention goes to Simon Chatten and Hadouken for pushing David all the way!!

Now onto the Gameweek, this one had been pencilled in as a biggy since the turn of the year when our good friend Mr Crellin highlighted the potential for a Big Double Gameweek early doors and a number of us begun to develop our plans to navigate the second part of the year.  Some did significantly better than others…. But again, we will get to that…

With expectations high amongst the community for some massive halls for the BDGW assets from some big hitting teams in the shape of City, Spurs, Chelsea and Utd out manager got down to business.  Gameweek 37 set a record for the most chips used in a single Gameweek … EVER … almost 2.4million!

This is a great indicator of the number of managers that are still active this late in the season!

The Spurs fans cheering City scoring must have been one of the most IRONIC moments of the Gameweek, going for a coveted Champions League spot the Tottenham stadium atmosphere was one of the strangest things I have observed.  Big Ange left fuming with his own fans and digging them out in person for being more interested in Arsenal not succeeding rather than seeing their own team at the European top table was refreshing to see.  If being Spursy could be summarise in an evening of football it was surely the game against City.

Son being straight through on goal and fumbling his lines against the super sub that has been Ortega all season allowing the Spurs fans to let out a sigh of RELIEF was the final nail!! and the final nail for a number of managers that ha kept faith with him through his baron run!

And so onto my own experience and just how IRONIC this game can be!

Southbourne Celtic had been plodding through the second half of the season, watching some massive halls come in along the way for teams around us, as we slipped into the world of mediocrity that is page 3 in the FFUK table.  However like finally coiled springs we were ready to pounce into action for DGWs 35 and 37 with the Wildcard ready to be triggered to deliver 15 DGW players in GW37 and 6 in DGW35…

Bringing in some left field choices to maximise the doubles this is where the problems began.

Schar, Maguire, Van Hecke a trio of Andertons all injured within a week of being transferred in … isn’t it IRONIC

Veltman came in as a -4 replacement based upon form scoring in the first half and hope were high for a haul …. To see him injured and subbed shortly afterwards resulting in missing the second game was soul destroying … IRONIC

Walker was brought in for the Double and was dropped by Pep for the first match … Hojlund was brought and dropped by ETH for the second match… IRONIC

I took the punt on Gordon as Captain without Haaland in the team …. He failed to find an attacking return at home for only the second time this season! … IRONIC

And onto one of the biggest IRONIES of the GW, Reece James, the guy is clearly a fantastic talent – when Chelsea can actually get him on the pitch!  Come on for the last 20 mins as part of yet another rehab, Petulantly kicks out at Joao Pedro and is now guaranteed to miss 4 games and the start of the new season, regardless of whether he can put his injury woes behind him! … IRONIC

Team of the Week

Man city figured heavily in the team of the week with no fewer than 6 players making the cut!!

Unfortunately for me Foden was not one of them …. IRONIC

Duran made his first appearance in the Team of the week, clearly not on the beach in RIO yet….

The FFUK Top 20 remains tight at the top!!!!!

We have a new leader BAKES has taken top spot as we round the elbow into the home straight. Coolers is tucked in right behind him having moved in to second with Mark having conceded ground at the last after all that front running!

This really could be anyones up there as we go into GW 38!! good luck lads!

So its been emotional team, If its the hope that kills you i am pleased to say that i have lost any hope that i may have had for a good outcome to this season.

To the gents of the EOSD Wine Club I will get the oven on!!!!

Good luck everyone and have a great summer!

(Roni Friel – Southbourne Celtic – 115th)
