SEASON & PRIZE ROUND UP – JOURNEY THROUGH THE PAST

Well, what a season that was, thanks to the legendary Neil Young for providing the musical accompaniment to this round up. After a less than thrilling final day, I’ve now sat through the final MOTD of the season, shed a tear for Lineker, and now we begin the process of sorting through the rubble and collating the prize winners.

Firstly, thanks to everyone in the FFUK league for taking part and making it what I believe is the toughest mini league around (apart from all those silly free ones with hundreds of thousands of teams in). Extra thanks to everyone in the WhatsApp group for keeping us informed in those vital moments.

And a special big thank you the small but perfectly formed crew of people who are always there to help with anything that needs to be done from week to week and keep this league running in the way we are accustomed to. Its a great team and a fantastic community we have built together, everyone can be proud of that.

Right, now that is out of the way we can announce some prizes. After what could be described as a slightly anti-climactic final GW the dust has now settled. Bonus points can’t be changed and even FPL wouldn’t dare make changes this late. So we can get to what is important, those who finished in those prize winning places.

THE WINNER IS…

Lets start with the main FFUK league of course. Out of 215 managers, there could only be one winner and that winner is Shaun Bremner. Huge congratulations! Shaun has been in the upper echelons for a good while now but timed his run to the top perfectly, in fact he only took top spot after GW37. The chasing pack fought valiantly but they simply couldn’t overcome him when it mattered. Shaun also did well in a couple of other FFUK prizes this season so must be feeling pretty happy right now, but we will get to that.

REST OF THE TOP 10

Second in the main league is no small feat, and last season’s champ, Paul Baker, had a storming final day scoring 79 points, which was the highest from anyone not using a chip. Well done on another strong season Bakes.

Another ffuker who had a mighty season and seemed like he was always destined for one of those top spots recently was Pete Brookes, we just didn’t know which one. Our ffuker who now lives down under came back to the UK for the final weekend and even a badly timed wedding on the Sunday didn’t spoil his season too much, although losing out on 2nd spot must have hurt a little.

Next in the final table was Ray Flynn, who ive kept an eye on for a while now, he has some good previous finishes under his belt and ive noticed him up at the right end of the league in recent seasons, I wonder if Ray may go a couple of positions better next season and win the whole thing, for now he will have to be happy with a 4th place finish.

2023 FFUK champion, John Harper, finished this season in 5th position, cementing his status as one of the top FFUKers to keep an eye on each season. If you finish ahead of John you know you have done well. Incredible consistency.

6th place went to 2nd highest scorer on the final day with 85 points via the use of his 25 point Bench Boost, nicely done Phil Richards. Perfect timing meant he halved his overall rank on the final day, something most of us can only dream of.

In 7th we find Paul Marshall, who I am sure is feeling a little disappointed as he lead the pack for quite a while and just fell away the last couple of weeks. Paul also used his BB on the final day but could only muster 8 points from it and he actually fell to 7th but it was still a very impressive season so console yourself with that, oh and the fact your beloved Leeds will be in the game next season.

One of the FFUK OG’s Sam Blake ended up in 8th to cement a very good season for him. If you’re in the WhatsApp group you know Blakey and his posts are always top notch. I’m sure as a spurs fan he enjoyed the end to this season even more than ever, for a change!

Adnan Hajrulahovič took 9th position with a solid effort, as is usual for him. Adnan is another ffuker with a very good history who joined us a couple of seasons back and whilst he is yet to really trouble the top of the league prizes, you certainly wouldn’t bet against him being right up there again next time round.

Rounding out the top 10 is Iain Sanderson, after a strong season long performance, Iain saved a good performance for GW38 scoring a more than respectable 75 points to cement that top 10 spot. As a Newcastle fan he has to have enjoyed that season!

TOP 20

In this league we also give out prizes to everyone in the top 20 so congrats to all of Chris Smith, Stephanie Ainley, Ashley Mather, Simon Pascoe, Steven Paterson, David Isaac, Adam Aloof, Steven Landsborough and Ella Chatten for their efforts. Every one of you has won a prize for your consistency this season.

MOTM

Its not just the league at the end of the season that is important in FFUK. Each and every month we give out a Manager of the Month prize, this is a fiercely contested prize each month so congratulations the following who each finished top of the pile in a particular month. MOTM prizes go to Darryl James for August, Neil Stewart for September, James Simpson for October, Rod Watson for November, Stuart Bennette for December, Bernard Perry for January, Mark Storrar for February, Ben Harta for March, Steve Cronin for April and finally, Paul Tate for winning the May prize.

BEST GW SCORES

Then we have best GW scores, at the end of this season we are awarding prizes for the best 3 GW scores (from different GWs). You can see all the best GW scores from this season HERE. The best GW score for this season that take the top prize is Lawrence Evans who scored a fantastic 165 back in GW24, no one could beat it so congrats Lawrence. 2nd spot went to Nitin Patel who scored 131 the following week (GW25) and 3rd place went to Mark Storrar in the very next week (GW26), not sure i’ve ever seen 3 best gw scores earnt in consecutive weeks, also not sure how interesting that is!

THE FFUK CUP

That means we are left with a couple of cup prizes to dish out. Congrats once again to our league winner, Shaun Bremner, who does the league and cup double as he defeated Tina Whitehouse in the final by 63 pts to 31. In the end it wasn’t close as Tina’s captain failed and the rest of her team didn’t really turn up either. Tina you were up against a formidable finalist but at least you win a runners up prize.

That rounds up the prizes from the FFUK league but there is more from our side games. If you would like to be involved in these next season then keep an eye out for announcements once the new season game is launched.

THE CONTS

In our most brutal but brilliant CONTS league the winner was crowned in GW37 and has the final week to bask in the glory of knowing they have won this one. Congratulations to Sam Blake on winning the CONTS, the title of King Cont and all that cash is all yours!

H2H

We have 4 brilliant H2H leagues with promotion and relegation between them and prizes given out to the top 3. We hope to offer a 5th division next season but now we need to discover who gets the prizes and who is going up and down in each league.

But before we do that we need to confirm that next season there will be no Mr Average in each division, instead each league will contain 20 teams which means more competition and more prize money, win win! To ensure that we have the right numbers in each league next season we have decided this season it will be 3 up and 2 down where applicable.

See below for the prize winners and those that are promoted relegated from each division. If you want to play H2H next season then let us know as we have started a wait list, we definitely have at least 4 additional places to offer to people and maybe another 20.

Chris
