GW1 REVIEW – OPEN UP

Welcome to the first review of the 23/24 season – OPEN UP

Before we get started… quick update re prizes, we are collating all payments & chasing a few outstanding FFUKers and will be removing any non payers that we have not heard back from later this week. Once that’s done we can confirm prizes – watch this space.

Thanks to Leftfield for this week’s tune selection to start the season, from one of my favourite albums of all time. And, handily, it’s perfect for the opening weekend. If you’re new round here then you can expect a review from a selection of special FFUKers after every GW and each one will come with a a different theme song. That’s how we roll.

One down, 37 to go. Let’s do this.

In the team of the week above there are a few standouts. Obviously Haaland (13) reminded us of his prowess. Saka (10) was also really popular.with good reason. But the rest was harder to predict.

Leno (12) could be the 4.5 GK of choice. The lesser fancied Man Utd pair at the back both went big and Varane (14) was actually the highest scoring player of GW1 and recorded his joint-best return. Anyone already on the french centre back?

In the midfield Barnes (11) got the points despite starting the game on the bench meanwhile Rodrigo (13) continues to be by far the most nailed City midfielder but we all ignore him for some reason.

Up top Isak (13) and Wissa (9) certainly give us food for thought as alternative forward options. Last season there were so few forwards, I really hope this season there are more options.

It was certainly a weekend for debut goals, did you pick any of the debutants below?

More importantly how did all of these goals affect the FFUK league?

THE FFUK TOP 20 AFTER GW1

Paul Bagshaw (1st) made the fastest start and tops the league after scoring a whopping 97 points which equates to a 9k rank – Impressive numbers! He made sure of a strong start by playing his bench boost early doors. A tactic I’ve heard a few content creators pushing so well done to those that went early, time will tell if it was the correct decision.

Next best was another FFUKer who dropped his bench boost at the earliest opportunity, Joseph Colliass (2nd) was rewarded with 96 points.

There were in fact 5 FFUKers that played their BB, including Andy Turner (7th) but the two at the top will certainly be the happiest of those.

For anyone new round here the best score each week will be added to the BEST GW SCORE page and at the end of the season prizes will go to the 5 highest scores*

* prizes yet to be allocated but it was top 5 last season

There will also be a Manager of the Month (MOTM) prize awarded each month, you can find these on the MOTM page and you can always filter the FFUK league by month to see the latest.

Thanks to everyone who joined our most popular side game – The CONTS mini league, we have record numbers! This review will always confirm the eviction for that GW.

To the matter in hand, in GW1 there is one eviction to confirm and its the worst week to go out. That unfortunate honour this season goes to Ali Scott Sheppard who managed just 38 40 points. Rashford captain wasn’t great but she only had Wilson, Mbeumo and Nketiah return and maybe too many not starting, but no Haaland was the big call. As the old saying goes, at least you can now focus on the league.

Looking ahead to the rest of the season, we will be announcing the eviction plan soon on our CONTS page but we hope to have single evictions every week apart from those where we have an eviction event, we will share this on our socials so make sure you are following us.

Thanks to all those who signed up for our H2H Divisions this season, you can find all the info HERE including the confirmed list of players and payouts. Good luck to everyone involved.

The season is up and running now, remember its a marathon not a sprint. 37 more weeks until we climax.

I think that is it for now, thanks for reading, and thanks for being a part of this community! We will be back soon but in the meantime if you have any questions or want to get involved in some way then please get in touch.

Until then look after yourself and each FFUKer,

Chris
