SEASON PREDICTIONS

It is time in the pre season for our annual predictions. For a taster of what we predicted last season check out the post from this time last year here.

This year we have 5 special FFUKers to give us their predictions once more. Plus, of course, myself and Pete to give our thoughts too. Big thanks to Jamie Stewart (Sheffield Weds), Stu Allen (Everton), Damien O’Neill (Leeds), Ian Galloway (Chelsea) and Tim McEwan (Everton) for their efforts, even though some of them had clearly been drinking when they made some of these predictions. I have included the team they all support as in some cases this may have affected their thinking 😉

Here we go.

Damien:

Liverpool

Man City

Spurs

Arsenal

It has to be Liverpool this year, though I do think it will be closer overall with a points total somewhere in the high 80’s sufficient to take the crown.

Ian:

Man City

Liverpool

Spurs

Man Utd

Jamie:

City

Liverpool

United

Spurs

I really can’t see anyone coming close to City and Liverpool again and whilst I don’t see it being quite as close as last year I’m sticking with City to edge it. Tough to call after that. I’ll rule Arsenal out of the top four, but I could make a case for any of the other three. I’ll stick my neck out and back United for third and Spurs for fourth.

Stu:

Man City

Liverpool

Spurs

Chelsea

Tim:

Liverpool

City

Spurs

Chelsea

It pains me to say it but I think It finally could be ‘their year’.

Pep may just concentrate on CL glory and let Jurgens boys beat them to the league!

3rd is Spurs’ to lose with what is going on at Chelsea, Arsenal and Utd.

Pete:

City

Pool

Arsenal

Spurs

Chris:

Liverpool

City

Chelsea

Spurs

I think this might actually, finally be their year so I am backing Liverpool to win the league. City 2nd. Then it’s tricky. I think Spurs may go ok and I think Chelsea might surprise a few and usually Spurs bottle it so I’ll go Chelsea 3rd and Spurs 4th.

Damien:

18. Brighton

19. Norwich

20. Sheff Utd

The Blades only got up due to Leeds late collapse and they haven’t invested in any quality players that would indicate they can survive more than a year in the Prem.

Ian:

18. Brighton

19. Sheff Utd

20. Norwich

Jamie:

18. Norwich

19. Newcastle

20. Sheffield Utd

If the UAE takeover goes through before GW1 please send this back and I’ll re-evaluate!! But as it stands I think Newcastle are in big trouble. I think the Blades might surprise us a bit, particularly early doors, but I can’t bring myself to back them to stay up. I think Burnley will have enough again, so for me that leaves one from Norwich and Brighton. If only for pun purposes I’ll back Potter to reinvigorate Brighton like a Phoenix and send Norwich down

Stu:

18. Newcastle

19. Norwich

20. Sheffield Utd

I think Sheffield Utd will be this seasons Cardiff – full of effort, fight and gusto but lack quality. I feel sorry for the supporters, but Newcastle are at serious risk of going down, the club is a shambles and losing Rafa was MASSIVE!

Tim:

18. Newcastle

19. Norwich

20. Sheff Utd

I think Villa are the most likely of the promoted teams to stay up as they may splash some cash. I really fear for Newcastle now that the fat Spanish waiter has left. (Sorry Coolers!)

Pete:

18. Brighton

19. Norwich

20. Sheff Utd

Chris:

18. Newcastle

19. Brighton

20. Sheffield Utd

Agree with the others mostly. Sheff Utd are in trouble and will finish bottom as are Brighton (19th) and Newcastle (18th). Villa and Norwich to just do enough.

Damien:

In – Leicester

Out – Man Utd

Ian:

In – Leicester

Out – Arsenal

Jamie:

In – Leicester

Out – Arsenal

If anyone is going to drop out of the top six it’ll be Arsenal, but I don’t think they will. Everton and Wolves are the obvious picks to break in, but I might go for Leicester – Brendan Rodgers’ arrival really perked them up in the second half of last season, and although I rate Maguire highly I don’t actually think his absence will hamper Leicester too much as they were hardly watertight last season.

Stu:

In – Everton

Out – ?

EVERTON, obviously!! Things are now finally settled at the Mighty EFC! We had a very good end to last season and we have a great first eleven – I don’t see us needing to do too much in the transfer market, so we can continue where we left off. Maybe we’ll buy a 20-goal a season striker – Costa?! And we definitely need to keep hold of Gueye! We’ll do just fine! If it’s not us, then Leicester; there is a lot to like about them currently!

Tim:

In – Everton

Out – Arsenal

Everton (obvs) and replace Arsenal. The finish to the season we had last year gives me plenty of hope. The Gomes signing is a biggy and gives us the best looking midfield pairing in PL history. Sexy Siggy & Gorgeous Gomes??? I think a top class striker (like the Lukaku we sold!) and we could actually challenge the top 4 never mind the top 6!!!

Pete:

In – Leicester

Out – Man United

I just can’t see that happening to be honest bit if I had to pick, Leicester and I dunno, United.

Chris:

In – Leicester

Out – Arsenal

Leicester for me. But in reality i am not sure it will happen this season, if it does it has to be Arsenal that slip out i think.

Damien:
Aguero or Kane. Maybe Sterling. Actually I will go with Mo! 🙂
Ian:
Sadio Mane
Jamie:
It’s a big ‘if’, but if he can stay fit then I’ll say Kane. He had a better ‘minutes per goal’ ratio than Salah last year and I imagine Aguero will continue to get hooked off around 70 minutes most weeks, thus limiting his tally.
Stu:
Aguero or Salah!! Let’s go for Aguero.
Tim:
Can’t really look beyond Harry Kane. If he stays injury free he’ll score more goals than Salah & Aguero.
Pete:
Aubameyang
Chris:
One of Auba, Kane or Salah I think. Lets go Kane as he currently sits in my GW1 team!
Take 5_6
Damien:
Sterling
Ian:
Raheem Sterling
Jamie:
Mo Salah. Even if he loses out to Kane in the goal-scoring charts he should comfortably outscore him in FPL due to the extra points for goals and clean sheets, plus he’s likely to get numerous more assists.
Stu:
Salah or Sterling!! Let’s go for Salah.
Tim:
Salah. The extra points for clean sheets and midfield goals should be enough for Mo!
Pete:
Salah
Chris:
Hard to pick anyone other than Mo. Can he make it 3 seasons on the trot? I think so.
Take 5_7

Damien:

Pogba – if they don’t get rid – He is playing for a transfer ( in the sulking way) cut your losses and get rid. Harry Maguire if he really does go for the reported £80m

Ian:

Ozil (Arsenal)

Jamie:

As I write this AWB sits in 31.9% of teams. Granted, his stats were incredible last season, but I can actually see him scoring fewer FPL points at Man U this season than he did at Palace last season. With his high ownership I expect plenty of transfers out (and thus price drops) over the first month or two of the season, which could coincide nicely with five tasty fixtures for Man U from GW10 onwards.

Stu:

Pulisic – he’s rubbish, Chelsea have massively overpaid for an average player who couldn’t get in the BVB team! Martial won’t do a lot over the course of the season, your typical blow hot / cold player!
Tim:

I really want to say Salah but that just won’t be the case! It’ll probably be a big money summer signing who we’d expect to be great. That probably means a striker for West Ham! Obvs Pulisic will not fill Hazard’s boots so I’ll say him.

Pete:

I picked Kane last season, and he pretty much did flop. This season? It doesn’t feel there’s much hype around many individuals per se, we’re mostly expecting it to be a repeat of last season, though it never usually works quite like that. A big injury could stifle Liverpool so I’ll punt on a Mane injury that buggers up his season.

Chris:

Plenty of options here this season, Ozil and Pogba are obvious but both will probably disappoint. But I am putting it all on the line and going for Dele Alli. I thought he was poor last season and it wouldn’t surprise me if he lost his first team spot this season!

Take 5_8
Damien:

Southampton
Ian:

Aston Villa
Jamie:

I’ve already mentioned Leicester above, but think I’ll opt for Villa. They’re currently third favourites for relegation with SkyBet but I think they’ve done some good business this summer. Not only that, but they’ve done their business early so they should have time to gel a bit before the season starts. If they keep Grealish (which is looking likely) they could easily finish mid-table.
Stu:

I don’t know what the ‘predictions’ are?! I don’t think Aston Villa will get relegated! I think Everton, Leicester & Wolves will all strongly challenge the top 6. I think Southampton will have their best season in quite a while!
Tim:

Villa, really like the look of Hourihane and that wee Scottish dude. Mings is a decent player and as I said earlier I think they could splash some cash!
Pete:

Burnley bastads
Chris:

Like the way the Southampton manager goes about his business but i think they still may struggle. Villa have spent some money and may surprise a few. But I am going for Watford. Like their manager and they seem to improve season on season.

Take 5_9

Damien:
Me – what’s the point in playing if i don’t think I can win it? Or maybe John Harper

Ian:

Chris Galloway

Jamie:

When I first came across Chris Galloway (not literally!) he was known as a bit of an FPL legend – he finished 379thin the world in 2009/10 don’t you know. His numbers over the last few years haven’t mirrored his potential and I know he’s got a brilliant season just around the corner. Could it be this year…??

Stu:

Pete Cronin. He thinks deep and plays logically! After a woeful start last year he fought bravely to the end like the Black Night from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. This is his year!

Tim:

Don’t really give a FFUK if it’s not me! If you finish above JDS, aka RSF aka Countdown and Coolers (always listen to him!) you’ll be in with a shout.

Pete:

Nick Johns, or how about Coolers?

Chris:

I don’t think I will win it, despite a couple of predictions that i might. I would love to tho. I think the winner comes from a group of Jamie Stewart, Nick Johns and John Harper this season. If I had to pick I will go for John Harper for his first league win!

Take 5_10

Damien:

Finishing 4th in the Conts last year was tough to take. So close but no cigar. A MOTM or Top 10 finish would make me happy.

Ian:

40th

Jamie:

As always, if I beat our kid Neil Stewart (NDS) I’ll be happy. I guess I’d be mad not to take a Top 10 spot if you offered it me right here and now.

Stu:

FFUK knows!! My last four points totals have been – 2229 – 2221 – 2230 – 2226. So I predict I’ll score around 2227 points this season and that’ll be around 25th in the FFUK League!

Tim:

As always I’ll be happy with a top 20 finish and a wee run in the cup. Doubt I’ll beat last years 9th place tho. What I would like would be to go further in the conts!!!

Pete:

18th, just above Chris

Chris:

I always aim for Top 10, way above Pete 😉 then I usually re-evaluate when I am sitting at the bottom of page 1 at Xmas.

Good luck FFUKers!
