The October Gamemonth is almost upon us which can only mean one thing …. the cups are here, in all their magnificent glory!
The draw has been made for the 1st round of the FFUK CUP, check it out here. So do the only sensible thing and check out your opponent’s squad forthwith!
Looking down the draw there are some interesting matchups. James Downie plays his Dad Andy and Scott “The Phoenix” Volker meets Matt Reid in a massive WhatsApp group showdown. Across 128 fixtures in Round 1 we find three fixtures between two teams both in the top 50 of FFUK: Chris Norman (9) vs Grant Lawrie (43), Tom Newman (30) vs Liam Whelan (32) and Duane Anderson (15) vs Lewis Bell (47). Yours truly (56) got Ben Carter (49). Good luck Ben! You’re going to need it with Issa Diop in your team …. !
At the opposite end of the scale we have a number of fixtures pitting teams ranked 200+ against each other including Seb Kylen (220) vs Mike Kamen (248), Andy Jackson (219) vs Danny Burgess (242) and Stuart Bennette (207) vs John Gordon (252). The two lucky managers drawing a Bye for the first round were Roni Friel (44) and Nicky Lodge (123). They get a free pass to Round 2. Lucky FFUKers.
As a reminder those teams (including the Byes) losing their first round match will be automatically entered into the Milk Plate, which will run in parallel to the FFUK Cup. In both cups results for each round are determined by Gamemonth score. In the event of a tie there will be a countback to the previous month’s score and so on. In the highly unlikely event that the two teams have had the exact same score all the way back to August, I will decide who goes through based on who I think has the best team name!!
Don’t forget, any hits made prior to the deadline for the first week of a Gamemonth do not count towards your Gamemonth score! A tactical hit or two might be worth considering, especially given October is very much a “sprint” month with only three Gameweeks. December has six Gameweeks!
